The a race up the Rogue is sanctioned by World Paddle Association, thank god someone is in charge. Projected start time will be June 10th at 11:00 am. There will be at least $1,500 in prize money for the long race. You can check out the 2012 Gold Beach Challange link for some of the details. I Expect to add $3,000 in prize money with a $50.00 entry fee, $75.00 for both events. $750 to the trials finalist, $1,500 for the Gold Beach Challange SUP surf contest and $1,500 for the race. Yea thats more than $3,000. I am working on sponsors start and the other details down here in Gold Beach. The Sunset Pro was epic check out the link in the nav bar. I hope to round up some interest in the SUP surf contest and the race. Any questions email me at ted@goldbeachweather.com .

2012 SurfTech Dualathlone

First shot at shooting a race. Next year I will shoot from the pier to get the action at the start. The running seems like cruel punishment. Anthony Vela won the mens and Candice Applebee won the womans. Hope to get some racers up to Gold Beach June 10th for the Rogue River Race.

2012 SurfTech Shoot Out Finals

What a difference a year makes. The Santa Cruz Paddlefest still had rain but at least the wind was down and the swell Up. Check out Matt Becker as he finds the Bomb of the day. Steamers Lane is not the easiest place to film with how far out the point is and the length of the ride. I know that when I am on someone that I was missing the other guys. Great event and Pono's Hawaiian Grill was the bomb. Handed out flyers and cards so I hope to get some guys up to Gold Beach.

Sunset Pro Round 3 Spills and Wipeouts

Here is a little footage of the guys testing their boards in some huge Sunset. Talk about going for it, check Kai Lenny out and Sean Poynter verifying that Newton's law of gravity is still in effect. Tried to slow it down and focus on the good stuff. I will get more heats up on the Heats on Demand page.

Epic Finals Main 2012 Stand Up World Tour Sunset Pro

Huge Sunset. Some of the sets were like Waimea Bay. Kai was stoked he made the finals. It was a little uneasy for a while. His dad said he told Kai to step it up in the finals. He killed it. Not only did he kill it , he jumped on sunset and pulled its beating heart out with his bear hands from the monster and ate it. 19 years old and nerves of steel. Click here to see the 2012 Sunset Pro Epic Finals Kai vs Bondga 2012 Sunset Pro Finals . It has been an great 9 days here on the North Shore. I have shot the complete Stand Up Paddle World Tour's 1st stop the Sunset Pro. I will be posting videos of the heats up and round highlights.

Huge Surf Forecast for the Stand Up Paddle World Tour Holding Period at Sunset

I tell people I would rather be lucky than smart. Looks like an Eddie caliber swell to hit the North Shore starting the February 6th. Looks to peak February 8th close to 40 feet. Lot still left to the models but at worst it should be bombing for the start of the Sunset Beach Pro. The primary swell is forecast at 19ft the 9th so there is a chance when all is done that the 9th may be the day. Stay tuned for some of my shots. I know Sunset is not the easiest break to shoot but I think I can get close enough with the big lens. I am hoping to get the heads up on the free surfing on the off days. I know Kai paddled Jaws and I have not seen Stand Up at Waimea Bay. All that talent there seems like we might see something great.

2011 Stand Up Showdown & the Pistol River Wave Bash

Here is a little of the interview with Kai Lenny the morning after the Showdown. Bottom line the Beachcomber and Pistol breaks impressed all the talent from Maui. 25 entries, four to the finals & Robby Naish ripping it all day long at the Rock. Topped it off with the Maui crew grabbing the demo boards and ripping up the break at the Beachcomber. Well Zane ripping it and the other looked normal.

Keep the Stoke high

It's Official. The Inn of the Beachcomber has a quiver. SUP Rentals on the Southern Oregon Coast. I have an order in process with Starboard for the 2012s. I will work with Naish and Starboard for some race boards. All said if you are flying in and need a board we should have you covered. Stand Up Paddle Boarding TV is back from Santa Cruz

What a great event! Big props to the event guys for pulling it off. True "victory at sea". It was a bummer that they canceled the last day. I knew all that water meant snow on the way home so it all worked out getting out early. Check out the videos of the Stand Up Paddle Saturday and a little of the Surf Kayaks. Had a great time in Santa Cruz and will be back next year. The conditions were a little harsh but to film Victory At Sea live as the watermen braved the conditions was cool if not a little wet. Zane Schweitzer was unreal winning the contest and will be at the Stand Up Showdown at Pistol River June 15th - 19th. It almost seemed unfair to see Zane just all over his 8' Tiki with the custom duct tape job. I can't wait to see those two guys duke it out at Pistol River. The cool thing is they will be doing it sailing in the windsurfing side of the contest and the Stand Up Paddle Shown down.

26th Annual Santa Cruz Paddle Fest Surf Kayaks

My son graduated from Sisters High School in 2008. They have a fund raiser for Doernbechers Children's Hospital in Portland called MR SHS. It has a talent section and one of his friends entered and showed his Kayak adventures. Crazy! With that said I knew when I drove down to shoot the Paddle Fest that people are prone to do some crazy stuff in a Kayak. It was unreal, yea that's the word for what the surf Kayaks did. It was big, it was blown out and all the shore break needed was some kids from Makaha getting pounded to complete the picture. The Kayaks had to make it through the shore break and then paddle out for what a mile into a 30 mile per hour head wind. Then find a way to drop down a 18 foot wall of wind and water. So Victory at Sea is the correct term. They came they surfed they conquered. Don't get me wrong. Mother Nature got her licks in. It was worth it to see Victory at Sea first hand and to be a park of it in a small way. I was prepared for rain and I do want a new Panasonic HPX 500 with the 2/3" CCD's. Not having the cash in the bank I was a little conservative and picked what I would shoot Saturday and Friday afternoon. Hope you enjoy the film and I will be back next year. Rain or shine.

The other Reels,

For the rest of story check out the our library. I still have stuff from the north shore this year to get up but have got started on the 2011 Pipe Masters. I have got all the AWT footage graded and I need to get that stuff up. Until then take a look at the Pipe Masters page and t.he body boarding video page. The Eddie did not go in 2011, but they tried and we have that.
